The Case Manager of the Year awards were held in the Hilton, Tower Bridge this year. The Unite Professionals table was naturally the most exciting and vibrant table! It was a great event despite it being Friday 13th! The guests at our table included Lauren Hurney from Irwin Mitchell solicitors and Peregrine Redgrave from Stewarts Law, Steve Williams from Bike Assist Legal (Motorcycle Personal Injury Specialist), Tilesh Patel, UPL’s Advisor to the business and of course our very own winner Jenny Cooper. Lee Evans (NDA), Jo and I were happy to host our guests.
The highlight of the event was of course Jenny winning Clinical Case Manager of the Year. So well deserved, Jenny’s humble but incredibly diligent and effective approach to case management was reflected in her acceptance of the award. Fantastic work Jenny. Her entry is available to see on the website.
The speaker on the day was Claire Lomas who gave a heartfelt and inspiring presentation of her journey following her fall from her horse rendering her paraplegic.
“Claire Lomas MBE is a British campaigner, fundraiser and former event rider known for finishing the 32nd Virgin London Marathon in 17 days using the ReWalk robotic suit. She became a paraplegic as a result of a riding accident in 2007.”
She told her story accompanied by amazing video footage of snippets of her life pre-accident and post-accident. If only we could bottle what makes some people able to pick themselves up and move on so positively after earth shattering injuries, having had their world turned upside down. She did not have a case manager but her message to us all was invaluable and emphasised the vital key being to be led by the person and not our own agenda. Motivation and exceptional hard work being guided and advocated for by good case management was what she felt was really important. She was inspirational.
Unite Professionals sponsored the Vocational Rehabilitation award. We were short listed for the Case Management Company of the Year but unfortunately did not win this category but to have been recognised within the finalist category is something we are proud of and will build towards winning next year as it represents the fantastic work we are doing day in and day out. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our incredibly hard working team at UPL and all the Case Managers who do so much fantastic work.
