UPL Case Manager Launches Folk/Pop Album

The Unite Professionals team is very pleased for case manager Michael Bickers who has recently launched his first album! His band, Purple Shoes, has released a 12-song album entitled ‘Small Town Fairy Tales,’ a quirky blend of English-infused Americana with a Folk/Pop twist which is now available for digital download.

After two years of recording, mixing, and mastering the album, Purple Shoes were ready to launch just as lockdown started. Sadly, their large album launch gig was not able to happen, but they were delighted to be able to film a virtual album launch at a local pub with safe social distancing measures. It was filmed by a reporter from BBC Sussex and has now been viewed over 4,000 times! We’re all delighted for Michael, who said that it may not have actually been as successful if it weren’t for the lockdown.

Michael has been a Case Manager at Unite Professionals for over three years now after spending years as an Occupational Therapist. He said that this role has allowed him to follow his passion for music.

“I’ve always been passionate about music and have been in bands for most of my life. I always wanted to record my own album but could never find the time as an OT. The nature of working as a Case Manager has allowed me the time to dedicate to recording this and I’m so pleased to have had such a great reception from our first album,” said Michael.

Although the band has struggled financially without being able to gig during the COVID-19 pandemic, he is grateful that he has still been able to manage his case management work from home remotely.

‘Small Town Fairy Tales’ brings listeners on a journey of emotions, with cheerful melodies yet deep, sometimes dark lyrics that reflect on the struggles of life that we can all relate to. The haunting, beautiful tunes might be just what we need to get through these challenging times.

The album is available for a digital download online at https://thepurpleshoes.com/ and a number of CDs are also available by post. Have a listen and let us know how the music makes you feel on Twitter!
